How to choose the right filter for your Zehnder unit
- Check the rating plate: The model name (e.g. “ComfoAir Q350” or “ComfoD 350”) is on the rating plate on the unit’s casing. Suffixes such as the connection side (left/right) usually don’t change the filter set – the series is what matters.
- Compare your old filters: Dimensions and filter class are usually printed on the filter frame. Compare them with the details on the product page.
- Choose the filter class: G4+G4 is the standard fit. With G4+F7 the supply air is filtered much more finely – useful for pollen allergies, near busy roads or in the city.
What do G4, F7 and activated carbon mean?
- G4 (ISO Coarse): Coarse filter for the extract air and as the standard supply filter. It captures house dust, fibres, insects and coarse pollen and protects the heat exchanger and fans.
- F7 (ISO ePM1): Fine filter for the supply air. It also removes very fine particles such as fine dust, soot and most pollen from the outdoor air.
- Activated carbon filter (AC): additionally binds odours and gaseous substances from the outdoor air, e.g. from farming, wood smoke or traffic.

Original Zehnder filters or house brand?
Original Zehnder filters are made in Zehnder Group plants in Europe and match the original equipment of your unit exactly. Our house brand is also made in the EU, has the same dimensions and filter classes and is a lower-cost alternative for regular filter changes. Both fit your unit without modification. What to look out for with alternative filters: Filter alternatives or original filters?
When should you replace Zehnder filters?
We recommend replacing the filters every 3 to 6 months. Many Zehnder units show a filter reminder on the control panel or in the app. Replace them sooner if:
- your home is near a busy road, fields or a building site,
- someone in the household has a pollen allergy (before the pollen season in spring),
- the filters are visibly grey or the unit runs louder than usual.
A proven rhythm in Austria: one change before the heating season in autumn and one before the pollen season in spring. Tip: order two sets at once and you’ll already have the next change at home.
Changing Zehnder filters – step by step
- Switch off the ventilation unit at the control panel or set it to filter change mode.
- Open the filter covers on the unit and pull out the old filters.
- Note the direction of installation: the fine filter (F7) always goes on the supply side (outdoor air).
- Push the new filters in as far as they go and close the covers.
- Switch the unit back on and reset the filter counter (on the display or in the app).
Illustrated instructions for your model are on every product page under the “How to change” tab.

What filter class does Zehnder use in ComfoAir units?

Zehnder ComfoAir units use two filter classes:
- G4 (ISO Coarse) — protects the heat exchanger; used on the extract side
- F7 (ePM1) — for the supply air, capturing fine dust and pollen
For most ComfoAir models we stock both a G4+F7 set and a G4+G4 set. The G4+F7 set is the better choice for allergy sufferers and homes near busy roads.
How do I find the correct replacement filter for my Zehnder ComfoAir unit?

Find the exact model on the unit's front panel — for example ComfoAir Q350, Q450 or Q600, ComfoAir 350/500/550, ComfoD 350/450/550 or Zehnder EVO. That is the fastest way to match the correct filter set in our catalogue. If the label is missing, measuring the extract and supply filters directly identifies the right size just as reliably.
Why do Zehnder ComfoAir filters need more frequent checks in high-pollen seasons?

Because ComfoAir's F7-class supply filter is specifically designed to capture fine airborne particles including pollen, it can load up faster during spring and early summer than during the rest of the year. Checking filters monthly during peak pollen season, even within the standard 3–6 month replacement window, helps maintain steady airflow and allergy protection.
Do Zehnder ComfoAir Q350, Q450 and Q600 units use the same filter size?

Yes. The ComfoAir Q350, Q450 and Q600 — and the ComfoAir E350 — all take the same filter set, available as G4+F7, G4+G4 or an activated carbon version. Older ComfoAir models (70, 160, 180, 200, standard 300/375 and 350/500/550) each take a different size, so check your model on the front panel before ordering.
Zehnder is a Swiss group with a strong presence in the Alpine region — are compatible ComfoAir filters as good as the originals here?

In use, yes, provided two things match. Zehnder's original filters are made by the manufacturer; our compatible filters are produced at EU manufacturers' facilities to the same ISO 16890 classes and cut to the exact ComfoAir housing dimensions. Because ComfoAir filter housings are made to tight tolerances, a correctly sized compatible filter seats without air slipping past the edges, and at the same class it captures the same particles. The two things that must match are the class — for Zehnder, F7 on supply and G4 on extract, which is what Austrian practice expects — and the dimensions of your exact ComfoAir or Q model. The difference is price, and it is usually noticeable.
How do I reset the filter reminder on a Zehnder ComfoAir after changing the filters?

On the ComfoAir Q range the reset is done from the control panel or the ComfoControl app, in the menu where the filter status is displayed; on older ComfoAir models (160, 200, 350, 550) it is a button sequence on the unit's own control, described in the manual for your model. It matters more than it sounds, because the reminder is a runtime timer rather than a measurement — if you do not reset it, the next prompt arrives at the wrong point in the cycle and you either change too early or run past the interval. Do the reset immediately after refitting the front panel, while you are still standing at the unit.
